Beginners River Kayak Class - May 14/15
Permalink

The CCA holds their annual Beginners Kayak Class on May 14/15.  I will maintain the post on the CCA message board at: http://www.canoecruisers.org/cca_messageboard/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=981&sid=1553427ffcaac4d1bd6d9ab4bea8f1e4

Each year, the CCA hosts a beginners kayak class. This year's class is held over the weekend of May 14, 15. The first day is half class time on dry land and a half day on flat water working on the various paddling strokes. The second day also starts with some class time but most of the day is spent on the water, class I & II whitewater to be exact. We also work on lots of rescue skills. The classes are held on US Park property at Lock 5 on the C&O canal, Feeder Canal, and the Z Channel. The class size is limited to 15 students - first registered, first served. Details on registration are located at: http://www.canoecruisers.org/instruction/registration-of-classes.html. I highly recommend early registration since this class fills up fast and several are already registering. Once the class capacity is reached, I have to cut-off new registrations and will post on this thread.

Besides registration, you will need to procure/borrow the necessary equipment like a kayak, paddle, helmet, PFD, and sprayskirt. The registration fees (worse case $20) are all applied towards ACA insurance so we can run this class - the class itself is basically free. Many club members from the CCA and the MCC have loaned equipment in the past if you plan ahead. No one will be admitted to the class if they show up on the class date without equipment.

This class is open to all but is limited to the first registered 15 students.
